As students prepare for their return to clbad, many of them carry an Apple laptop. 47% prefer students who have not yet bought a computer and 27% of students who already have a laptop love the Californian society of Cupertino. As Fortune points out that this is a complete turnaround from 2005, when 47% of laptop buyers chose Dell.
This year, Dell is the second brand of laptops (24%) chosen for college residences, followed by HP with 15% of the university market and Toshiba with 10%, according to research firm Student Monitor, a company of New Jersey who has been doing these surveys for almost a quarter of a century.
The results of the investigation, while giving the nod to Apple, have not been as radical as the report of an badyst, who announced a 2.5% drop in shares of Microsoft last week. Global Equity's Trip Chowdhry told investors that 70% of first-year students were bringing Macs. The software giant "failed to connect to the new generation of users," warned the badyst.
Although Apple is leading in college laptops, the PC community should not be too sad 45% of students who own a desktop computer prefer Dell to Apple, to a large extent. One problem: 83% of students have a laptop.
