The venerable iPod Clbadic has not been updated since September 2009, and even a negligible update of the latest model, the sixth-generation iPod, debuting in 2007. This long gap, coupled with the growing focus of Apple on their iOS devices, prompted Some are wondering if we would see very soon the abandonment of the iPod Clbadic … all the more so that it seems more and more likely that the next iPod Touch comes with as much as 128GB of flash storage.
If you like the iPod Clbadic, do not be fooled by morbid speculation. Apple's CEO, Steve Jobs, has weighed in on the issue, writing a (almost hysterical) MacRumors player and claiming that they have "no plans" to destroy the iPod Clbadic.
Honestly, it relieves me a little. It's easy to think of the iPod Clbadic as outdated technology, but I like to think of it as a samurai sword, razor sharp and perfected after innumerable folds. The fact that it does not have the same functionality as a ray gun does not make a samurai sword obsolete, it just makes it less bright, more focused and more subtle.
The iPod Clbadic's address to only one type of person: the guy who wants to have his entire music collection in his pocket at all times. As the size of music files increases, as digital music collections grow, there will always be someone for whom the iPod Touch will not cut it. Apple still wants to sell to these guys an iPod. These are the guys who built the brand to start.
