Bryan Shlager bought an iPad at Best Buy in Dorchester, Mbadachusetts, which he suspects is a fake – and also claims that the store knows that there are at least five or six other fake sold in the same store.
Neither he nor his first-year college freshman, for whom it was a gift, could turn on the iPad.
Shlager reported it to a Best Buy store near his son's campus in Florida, where he said the Geek Squad employees told him that it would not work because it was a fake.
Shlager tried unsuccessfully to get a refund.
"They've accused me of bringing home a new one, replacing it with a dummy and trying to make it," Shlager said.
Not only did Shlager deny he tried to pull a bait and rocked $ 830, but he says Best Buy called and left a message to his wife.
"They told him that it happened between five and six other people in the store and they realized that there was a problem," Shlager said.
Best Buy keeps mom, saying that they are investigating the problem.
This is the first time we have seen a fake iPad in a big box store, but it will probably not be the last in the haste of Christmas for this season's gift.
