Samuel Ofosu Ampofo and other NDC executives
A security alert struck Electoral Commission (EC) staff at its headquarters in Accra, at the height of last week's election in the district of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
The unhindered access of some 20 apparatchiks from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to the security enclave, especially when the EC has engaged in elections in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon, revealed the security flaws of the Commission.
The party leader, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, was supported by Sylvester Mensah, an aspirant NDC flag bearer, former Attorney General Marietta Brew-Appiah Oppong, executive board member, Baba Jamal and 20 others.
The fear and panic provoked by their presence were exacerbated by the behavior of the twenty or so police officers with a fleet of armored vehicles, who listened with indifference to the fact that the sponsors exploited unhindered access to the bowels of the police. At a crucial moment and headed to the president's office.
DAILY GUIDE later learned from a source that, when party leaders met with the EC president, they told him that their mission was to tell the Commission that they were withdrawing from the company. 39, by-election in the constituency of Ayawaso West Wuogon.
Some of the sponsors had already attended an action at the home of the NDC candidate; their faces adding to the fear of EC staff who could not understand their mission.
This was unexpected and shortly after the ugly incident occurred in the residence of their by-election candidate.
Many workers who saw and identified them developed a button and wondered how to get away if the visit was hectic.
A local security officer at EC, who pleaded anonymity when DAILY GUIDE contacted him, said: "We are disappointed with the way the police almost organized a quarter guard and presented the weapons for the sponsors. "
An overhaul of the security arrangement within the EC was made necessary by the perception created by the display of the unenviable violent pedigree and by the way in which the opposition was planning to drive the 2020 polls of some party leaders as a result of the recent by-election and lack of professionalism. Conduct of cops at the scene last Thursday.
While the by-elections were about three hours away, the withdrawal had no effect as NDC officials bypbaded the constituency to urge their supporters to vote for their candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong.
The declarations of the polling stations at the end of the electoral exercise bearing the signatures of party agents, including the NDC, suggest that the mission to the EC has not finally recorded the desired result: an election partial was organized and the NDC participated.
The President of the European Commission did not answer her calls after several calls.
Now that the story is over, maybe she would talk about the issue.
Had she answered her call, we would have asked if she had reported the security alert and the poor show of her staff at the PGI.
