With the unveiling of iOS 5 at WWDC earlier this week, Apple announced some features that could worry some third-party application developers. A feature that has not been mentioned, however, can worry those who produce panoramic camera applications.
Some lines of code discovered in the first beta of iOS 5 suggest that Apple is considering a native panoramic camera feature for iOS 5, which could create applications such as: Panorama 360, AutoStitch Panorama, and Microsoft Photosynth obsolete.
In the code relating to the iOS Camera app, three lines read:
PANO_OPTION = "Take a panorama";
SAVE PANORAMA = "Save Panorama";
CANCEL_PANO_BUTTON_TITLE = "Cancel";
It is not clear if the feature can be used in one way or another through the first iOS 5 beta, but it could be introduced in future beta versions before the firmware is released. made public later this year.
