Adams also played a role in the World Trade Center of Oliver Stone (2006).
Julie Adams, the damsel in distress in the clbadic monster movie Creature of the Black Lagoon, died at the age of 92.
The 1954 film inspired The Shape of Water, winner of an Oscar of last year, directed by Guillermo del Toro, who tweeted about the news.
Adams died early Sunday in Los Angeles, his son Mitch Danton told the Hollywood Reporter.
She also played real estate agent Eve Simpson in Murder. She wrote alongside Angela Lansbury between 1987 and 1993.
Her other TV hits include The Jimmy Stewart Show in the 1970s – in which she plays Stewart's wife – and the 60's detective series Perry Mason.
She also played alongside Elvis Presley in Tickle Me (1965) and starred in The Last Movie (1971) with Dennis Hopper and McQ with John Wayne (1974).
But it is Creature of the Black Lagoon that propelled it to the rank of star.
Universal wanted Adams to play the role of Kay Lawrence, who would become the object of desires of Gill-Man, played by Ben Chapman.
But in an interview given to The Horror Society six years ago, Adams said she was not sure about taking that role early.
"I thought:" The creature of what? What is it? " because I worked with major stars, etc.
"But I read it and said," If I refuse it, I will not get paid and I will be suspended. "
And then I thought, "What is hay! It could be fun. And of course, actually. It was a great pleasure to take the picture. "
In her interview with the Horror Society, Adams explained why she thought the Black Lagoon Creature's reputation had been lost.
"I think the best thing about the picture is that we feel for the creature, we feel for him and his situation," she said.
Adams was originally from Iowa, but had moved a lot before going to Hollywood to try his luck in the showbusiness.
She is survived by her two sons from her marriage to actor / director Ray Danton and her four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to The Nature Conservancy or the World Wide Fund for Nature.
