For many, advertising was more confusing than anything else.
Here's the story: The film is shot from a four-and-twenty-second scene titled "Andy Warhol Eating a Hamburger," which debuted in the 66-film "Scenes from America" Jorgen Leth in 1982, reports AdAge.
Warhol was fascinated by iconic American brands, but would have preferred McDonald's to Burger King. When Warhol arrived to be filmed eating the hamburger, Leth said the artist had asked, "Where is McDonald's?" Apparently, Warhol preferred McDonald's design.
A representative of Burger King said in an email that the ad was supposed to echo Warhol's quote: "What's great about this country is that America has started the tradition that the The richest consumers buy essentially the same things as the poorest. "
However, the message was not clear to many people watching the Super Bowl.
The ad was ranked among the five worst broadcast during the Super Bowl, according to viewers interviewed by the Suzy Consumer Intelligence Platform.
According to Brandwatch, Burger King recorded more than 11,000 social media mentions throughout the Super Bowl. The conversation around advertising was mixed, with 55.5% positive feedback and 44.5% negative feedback.
The fast food chain has downloaded the four minutes and 20 seconds of Warhol eating the Whopper online.
