Verizon has rolled out its new LTE mobile broadband service across America in the past two months, announcing the introduction of a future iPhone 4G on its network, presumably next year. Anyway, at the moment, there are no Verizon 4G smartphones … instead, they sell a series of 4G LTE modems, which are unfortunately only for Windows PCs … no Macs accepted.
Fortunately, it seems that the brave hacker community has already managed to create an unofficial workaround for the situation, bringing for the first time 4G support to OS X … at least for now. Pantech UML290.
It goes without saying that this hacking will not be officially supported by Verizon, but it is not completely unofficial either: it would have been designed with a little help from the advanced support team from Verizon. Not only will this work in OS X, it will work even under Linux.
Awesome. Someone feeling brave enough to try it?
