The constituency branch of Ayawaso West Wuogon of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) said it would not recognize the elected parliamentarian, Lydia Seyram Alhbadan, claiming that the by-election was a "mockery" ".

A by-election held last Thursday following the death of Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremateng Agyarko saw his widow Lydia Seyram Alhbadan elect her successor.

In a statement issued on Monday, February 4 by the president of the constituency, Aborbi-Ayitey Bismark, the NDC of the constituency called for the cancellation of the results, which gave the victory to the new patriotic party candidate with about 69% of the votes favor.

According to the NDC, the circumstances under which the elections were held are questionable, as they were tainted by violence.

"We will not recognize the heartless candidate of the nuclear plant, Lydia Alhbadanas, elected MP, because the process as a whole was a sham. We call on the president of the electoral commission to cancel the result of the by-election to the extent that the election took place under dubious circumstances … ", read in a part of the declaration.

The party also joined the many institutions and stakeholders who condemned the violence on Thursday, including the residence of NDC candidate Delali Kwesi Brempong and the polling station of La Bawlieshie Presby School.

While expressing its disappointment with the Government of Ghana, the Inspector General of Police and National Security as to how the matter was handled, the largest opposition party also asks for replies from the Government on the following points:

How many National Security Officers were commissioned on the day to oversee the

* Partial elections Ayawaso West Wuogon?

* How many did they receive weapons and live ammunition?

* How many M16s and AK47s and ammunition were issued for their operations on Election Day on January 31, 2019?

The NDC expects investigations into this case and that the perpetrators be brought to justice as soon as possible.
