Alzheimer's support group to start meeting in Marshall County

MURRAY, KY – Alzheimer's disease is a progressive degenerative disease that attacks the brain. This is the most common form of dementia and its causes are unknown. More than 2 million Americans are diagnosed with the disease.

The Alzheimer's Association recently announced plans to hold a monthly support group in Benton for family members and caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia-related illness. The support group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the Marshall County Public Library in Benton.

The setting is a small group discussion that focuses on sharing feelings, reflections, experiences and education. Meetings usually last an hour.

Teresa Thompson, Geriatric Behavior Health Unit Community Educator of the Murray-Calloway County Hospital Geriatric Health Service and a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association, will begin to lead the support group starting in March 2019. Dr. first meeting of the support group is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 at 10:00 am at the Marshall County Public Library, located on Poplar

Street in Benton Kentucky.
