DRIVe and Sepsis Alliance Partner to Improve Septic Patient Results Through Innovative Learning Solutions

SAN DIEGO, February 4, 2019 / PRNewswire-PRWeb / – Sepsis Alliance, the country's leading sepsis organization, and DRIVe, a division of the US government focused on accelerating products and innovative approaches to improving the country's health security, have badociated to create the Sepsis Institute to prevent sepsis public health crisis in case of national pandemic, chemical, biological, radiological or nuclear attack. High infection rates in either of these situations can lead to sepsis.

An estimated 270,000 Americans live every year. Sepsis occurs when the body's reaction to infection results in an overwhelming immune response that can lead to serious tissue damage, organ failure and death. Early detection of sepsis is essential because sepsis mortality increases by about 8% every hour of treatment delay.

Health care providers will have access to high quality, evidence-based education and training on sepsis. This will include training modules for care providers across the continuum of care, primary care practitioners, emergency medical services staff, nurses and emergency room physicians.

DRIVe (Division of Research, Innovation and Enterprise) aims to provide solutions to 21st century sanitary safety issues in America through collaboration and support for the development of innovative products and approaches. DRIVe is an initiative of the BARDA (Advanced Research and Development Authority in the Biomedical Field) within the US Department of Health and Human Services.

DRIVe's Solving Sepsis program supports the development of treatment technologies, including preventative and mitigation measures to reduce the incidence of sepsis, morbidity and mortality, as well as the economic burden. This program is part of DRIVe's mission to support transformational innovation to protect Americans from 21 st century security threats.
DRIVe and Sepsis Alliance are committed to establishing a partnership between a public non-profit organization and the contribution of DRIVe. $ 427,248 of total $ 622,248 estimated cost of the project to create the Sepsis Institute and develop educational content. Sepsis Alliance will finance the remaining development costs.

DRIVe is transforming the speed with which the government partners with the industry. To streamline its financing mechanism, DRIVe has implemented a new EZ-BAA application, a simple summary tailored to businesses.
