A cinema in the city of Florianopolis would have become the first in the country to allow its customers to buy movie tickets using Bitcoin.
Go to the cinema with Bitcoin
In 2018, Bitcoinist announced that the Major Cineplex Group – the largest movie theater chain in Thailand, was about to begin accepting cryptocurrencies as a means of payment for a wide range of services such as the purchase of movie tickets and even popcorn.
Brazil has also seen its first cinema accept the acceptance of Bitcoin for movie tickets.
It is called Cine Multi and is located in the city of Florianopolis. It is the capital and the second largest city in the state of Santa Catarina.
The move is made possible through a partnership between the movie theater and the Bancryp application, which will facilitate payments in Bitcoin.
Fernando Costa, owner of Cine Multi, said:
For Cine Multi, already following the path of culture, opening an innovative market is a huge step forward. Now all customers, in addition to being in a pleasant environment, will also be pioneers to pay a cinema with Bitcoins.
Brazil's interest in Bitcoin and Blockchain
In 2018, one of the presidential candidates, João Amoêdo, expressed his thoughts on Bitcoin and crypto-currencies in general.
Amoêdo noted:
As a means of payment, I see no doubt that bitcoin can be understood as a legal means of payment. If both parties wish to exchange a product via Bitcoin, I do not see any legal impediment to doing so.
In addition, in January 2018, Bitcoinist reported that Brazil had turned to the Ethereum chain to monitor and keep track of its political expression, and a hotel chain has been accepting BTC since January 2017.
