Bolton Wanderers owner Ken Anderson said he was participating in "in-depth discussions with an interested party" about the sale of the championship club.
Last month, Anderson said that he "was doing everything possible" to find a buyer amid the protests of fans regarding his management of the club.
Anderson first acquired a stake in Bolton during a takeover in 2016 with former striker Dean Holdsworth.
He took majority control in 2017 after acquiring Holdsworth shares following its liquidation.
"I get many requests almost every week," Anderson said in a statement posted on the club's website.
"I can, however, confirm that there are in-depth discussions with an interested party, but as I'm sure you will appreciate, I can not provide you with details at this stage.
"When there is something to say, you, the fans, will be the first to know through the club's usual channels."
Anderson has already admitted that the Wanderers "need someone with more financial resources than me" to compete with their championship rivals.
Bolton is ranked 23rd with just one league win since September 29th.
