A salvage operation is underway following a sequence showing a visible body among the plane shot down carrying the Cardiff City attacker.
The Air Accident Investigation Directorate (AAIB) is attempting to recover the body found in the debris of the light aircraft carrying Emiliano Sala and David Ibbotson.
A search conducted using a remote-controlled vehicle (ROV) helped locate the plane at the bottom of Guernsey on Sunday.
"Tragically, in a video sequence of the ROV, an occupant is visible in the middle of the wreckage," one reads in a statement from the AAIB.

After consulting the families of the Sala striker from the city of Cardiff, the Ibbotson driver and the police, it was decided to conduct a recovery operation.
A spokesman for the AAIB said: "We are trying to recover the body.If we succeed, we will consider the possibility of recovering the wreckage of the aircraft.
"Strong tides mean that we can only use the Remote Control Vehicle (ROV) for limited periods each day, which means that progress is slow.
"Whatever the results, we will not make any further statements until the families have been informed."
The plane Piper Malibu disappeared January 21 over the Channel, while Sala went to Cardiff after making a record move Ligue 1 club Nantes.
The Guernsey police canceled a first search and rescue operation three days after January 24.
