OGunnar Solskjaer explained why he thought he was the ideal candidate to push Manchester United beyond the season in his biggest success so far for the post at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer decided to become United's next permanent manager in an unbeatable, undefeated match, winning nine of his first 10 games, transforming the morale of the player and upsetting the tactics and style of the team in just seven weeks .

United was 11 points behind Champions League spots when Jose Mourinho was sacked a week before Christmas, but he will be ranked in the top four if he beat Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday at noon.

Solskjaer endured an unfortunate spell as Cardiff City leader in 2014: he lost 12 of his 18 Premier League games and the club was relegated.

But the former Norwegian striker thinks he's ideal for United, where he spent 11 years as a player and hopes to convince his bosses that he is the right choice against Mauricio Pochettino of Tottenham before the end of the season.

"Since [retiring in] 2007 I watched the majority of [United’s] games and, of course, I had my opinion about what was going well and what was going wrong, "he said. "That's what you do as a supporter of United. So, I think I was more prepared for this one.
