IMANI GHANA 123 Nine other think tanks made the last 100 in the list

The IMANI Center for Politics and Education has been ranked as the most influential and influential think tank in Ghana and the third largest think tank in sub-Saharan Africa, said the Global Go-To Think Tank Index (GGTTI) 2018.

In the last five years, IMANI has ranked second in 2015 and 2016, third in 2017 and 2018; and 4th in 2014 in the Sub-Saharan Africa category.

Rankings published by the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States, evaluated 8,126 think tanks around the world.

Nine other Ghana think tanks were selected from the last 100 think tanks in sub-Saharan Africa, which have been active in Ghana's policy and governance leadership.

These include, the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), 4th; Institute of Economic Affairs, 17th; Institute for Development Studies (IDS), 34th; ISSER, 35th; Institute of Democratic Governance (IDEG), 70th; Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD), 74th; Center for Economic Transformation (CET), 86 and Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), 96th in sub-Saharan Africa.

Methodology

Before starting the 2018 nomination and selection process, the team conducted extensive research to update and verify the Think Tank and Civil Society Global Think Tank database (TTCSP). During this process, many additional focus groups were identified for possible inclusion in this year's study.

One month before the launch of the 2018 nomination and selection process, a letter announcing the launch of the Go8 Global Focus Group Index (GGTTI) 2018 was sent to the individuals and organizations in our database.

Focus groups were invited to make recommendations to improve the nomination and selection process, in addition to potential candidates on the panel of experts.

A letter requesting evaluations of the effectiveness and validity of the 2017 ranking criteria, as well as the nomination and selection process, was also sent to experts from previous years.

Global Think Tank Index (GGTTI)

GGTTI is just one of the measures of the performance and impact of a think tank. It was designed to be used in conjunction with other measures to identify and evaluate public policy research organizations around the world.

The inclusion of an organization in the index does not indicate that the institution, its publications or programs have an endorsement or approval seal from TTCSP.

On the other hand, the exclusion of an organization from the ranking does not necessarily indicate poor quality, efficiency or performance.

Globally, 8,162 think tanks are completing outstanding work to bridge the gap between knowledge and policy. This report is just an effort to highlight some of the world's leading think tanks.
