The upcoming Oscars, the biggest party in Hollywood, will be held this year without a host for the first time in three decades, organizers said Tuesday.
"We can confirm that there will be no presenter," told AFP a spokesman for the Academy of Arts and Cinema, without specifying in detail .
The academy remained homeless after actor and comedian Kevin Hart stepped down in December following a social media reaction to homophobic tweets he made several years ago.
Gala organizers struggling to cope with a steady decline in viewers were struggling to find a replacement but had finally opted for a ceremony without a master of ceremonies.
Industry insiders said the producers of the 91st Academy Awards on February 24 plan to try a new format with a selection of Hollywood stars introducing various segments.
The last time the Oscars went off without a presenter, was in 1989, when actor Rob Lowe was hailed for his musical duet with Snow White.
In recent years, several other hosts have also been criticized.
Actor Neil Patrick Harris rumbled during his efforts in 2015 and said that he would never do it again. James Franco and Anne Hathaway were lost in 2011.
The two previous Oscars have been hosted by the night man Jimmy Kimmel. Comedian Chris Rock was an actor in 2005 and 2016 and television host Ellen DeGeneres was featured in 2007 and 2014.
