Single and multiple fractures of the hip, vertebrae and ribs strongly affect the quality of life of older people over a prolonged period of time, according to a new study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

As part of the study, which included 10-year follow-up data, researchers determined the long-term impact of frailty fractures on the health-related quality of life of more than 7,500. participants aged 50 and over in the Canadian multicenter study on osteoporosis.

It should be noted that fractures of the hip and spine were badociated with a negative impact on mobility, self-care and ambulation. Fractured hip women never found their level before the fracture, whereas it took them five years to regain a health-related quality of life before fracturing the spine.
