The procurement officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) was terminated pursuant to a letter dated February 4, 2019, as seen by MyNewsGh.com.

The letter signed by the Director General, Dr. Kofi Kodua Sarpong and forwarded to the Director General of Administration, Director General of Legal and Human Resources / Internal Auditor, indicated that the dismissal was based on comments from the Central Review Board of company offers.

"As you are no doubt aware, the PPP and the Central Tenders Review Committee (CTRC) have recently indicated in their correspondence that the purchase function of the GNPC was problematic.

In a letter dated January 4, 2019 (in which you were copied), the Honorable Minister of Energy resumed the comments of the Central Review Board. The management of the purchasing function, since I took office in 2017, is under your supervision. You had your own way of handling this function.

For no apparent reason, the Director General (Administration), who is directly responsible for overseeing the procurement function, has been marginalized, which limits the level of supervision required to effectively manage this function. This undoubtedly explains the Corporation's inability to meet the procurement standards established by the EAC and CTRC, "the letter states.

"I am, with immediate effect, placing the purchasing function under my direct supervision while waiting for the appointment of a responsible for substantive purchasing in the coming weeks. From now on, all questions regarding purchases must be submitted to my office. " he added.

"In the meantime, thank you for pbading all the activities related to the purchases without delay and not to award new contracts."

By a copy of this memo, the current acting head of the procurement department must provide me with a status report on the department's activities, "the letter says.
