Alhbadan Suhuyini, MP for Tamale North
The Speaker of Parliament on Wednesday sacked Tamale North Alhbadan Suhuyini MP from the chamber for unruly behavior.
Suhuyini shouted aloud in a debate over the minority boycott of the swearing-in of Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Lydia Alhbadan, during which members of the minority carried placards bearing the inscription bloody widow ".
Suhuyini Protests Minority Party's Call for Minority Vice President Joe Osei Owusu to Apologize for "Bloody Widow" Sign, Urging Minority Leaders Not to Apologize .
Osei Owusu ruled his conduct inappropriate and unparliamentary and ordered his removal from the room.
At the same time, minority leader Muntaka Mubarak condemned the labeling of the new Ayawaso West-Wuogon MP as a "bloody widow" by the House's minority caucus.
The minority who left the House during the swearing-in ceremony of the new MP waved placards carrying the offensive inscription on Tuesday. They claim that it is the product of a "bloody process" – in reference to the chaos that characterized his election last week.
Labeling has been widely condemned by Ghanaians.
Speaking Wednesday in the House, Asawase MP said the action of his group was targeting the wrong person.
"Do not all pretend to be hypocrites. when it happens on your side, then it is good, when it happens on the other side, then you cry. Let us normalize what we do. Mr President, let me say that what we did yesterday was part of parliamentary procedure. If others had placards, that is false, as has always been the case in this chamber and we continue to condemn it.
"But when people want to stop at our markets colleague, the Honorable Lydia Alhbadan, let me say that this is very unfortunate because she does not control the security agencies, she does not influence anything. We need to be cool and take into account the problems that have occurred without putting aside the main problems with some people in hospitals, "he said.
Justification
But the deputy head of Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, had justified the minority's decision in an interview with Starr News.
"We did not take part in the swearing in because we had problems with the electoral process. Lydia is the product of a bloody process and that's the interpretation of what we had on the placards.
"No one should read another meaning in the inscription. The election of Mrs. Alhbadan and all that characterized her (the bloodshed) is what we describe as a bloody widow, "he said.
