Energy Minister John-Peter Amewu said more than 7,000 electrical wiring professionals had been certified as part of an electrical wiring regulatory program as part of the government's efforts to reduce electricity costs. fire hazards badociated with faulty electrical wiring.

Mr Amewu added that a mobile application had been developed by the Energy Commission to allow homeowners and property developers to easily find certified electricians across the country.
He stated that the program, implemented five years ago, complied with the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (LI 2008), which is intended to ensure that licensed electricians use standard, quality wiring materials.
In the meantime, he said, about 100 violators of the electrical wiring regulations have been sanctioned.

In recent power outages, Mr. Amewu explained that they resulted from the modernization of some transmission lines of the Ghana Electricity Corporation (ECG).
He explained that the recent power outages had nothing to do with management issues and made it clear that it was a technical problem, adding that sometimes delays in the transportation of light crude to power plants resulted in intermittent power outages.

Oil and gas
The government, Amewu said, was working diligently to position the oil and gas sector as a better market for investors by adopting measures such as a road show to promote the industry in the world.
"It is important to generate large deposits of capital in the oil and gas and energy sectors, as Ghana will experience the first rounds of licenses for oil and gas. Allocation of blocks in 2019, "he said.

Participation
By September 2018, about 600 Ghanaian indigenous businesses were participating in the upstream oil industry, with contracts totaling $ 799 million.

Amewu said 75 percent of people working in the upstream oil industry were Ghanaians.
Illicit activities
He added that some unscrupulous oil service providers were taking advantage of price disparities resulting from the deregulation policy to illegally supply fuel.
He added that they were engaged in illegal imports through unapproved channels and declared products being the subject of an export being dumped into retail outlets in Ghana.
They also diverted the premixed fuel from the original destinations on the landing sites and under-reported the fuel supply volumes from various depots in the country, he said.
Amewu said the ministry, in collaboration with some security agencies, had arrested alleged oil service providers, their vehicles and other equipment confiscated.
In all, 28 bulk road vehicles, six canoes, four mobile pumps and five outboard engines carrying 709,250 liters of petroleum products illegally spent were confiscated.
To curb the phenomenon, he said, the ministry was working with the Ghana Maritime Authority and other stakeholders to monitor and regulate offshore oil tanker activities to control smuggling.
