The Electoral Commission warned political parties against the use of thugs during political activities and elections.

This announcement follows the recent violence that characterized the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Condemning this act, the Commission "urged political parties to work to solve the problem of militiamen within their respective political parties to ensure that such incidents will not happen again in the future".

In the opinion of the Commission, the security officers should have "better managed the clashes" that occurred in the home of Delali Kwesi Brempong.

The above conclusion was drawn at the conclusion of a crucial meeting between the All-Party Consultative Committee (ICPC) of the Electoral Commission and other stakeholders to deliberate on the largely condemned violence and on other relevant issues.

The meeting included representatives of registered political parties, development partners and a number of civil society organizations (CSOs), as well as senior officials of the Commission.

Other issues discussed included the district level elections (DLE) of 2019 and the referendum, the inspection of political party offices and the compliance level of political parties with respect to their 2017/18 audited accounts.
