UEFA should put an end to its talks on the upcoming formation of a dissident European super league, protecting the highest national rankings at least until 2024.
Emails and documents published by Der Spiegel, which had already been alleged, claimed that Real Madrid was working with other big clubs on the planning of a 16-team Super League starting in 2021.
According to the Telegraph, UEFA will now react to the threat by agreeing to a new agreement with the European Clubs Association, which relies on "its close cooperation over the past eleven years".
The Executive Committee is expected to unveil the new legislation at its meeting in Rome on Wednesday, but it is also planned to discuss the removal of the distant targets rule, among other issues.
The Premier League giants Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United would be ready to be involved in a potential competition adrift, but the new deal will protect the highest flight for the moment.
Aleksander Ceferin, who appears to be about to be re-elected president of UEFA on Thursday, said: "I am delighted that we have reached such an agreement and that we, as an organ Director of European Football, continue to work closely together to: continue to promote, develop and shape the future of football on the continent.
