While US President Donald Trump was delivering his speech on the state of the Union in Congress, many people turned to social media to discuss the event.

Among the political badyzes and partisan debates, a number of lighter discussion points were raised.

The #PelosiClap

It is perhaps not surprising that Nancy Pelosi became the subject of one of the most popular memes of the night.

The new Speaker of the House, who de facto chaired the Democratic Party, was one of the most prominent opponents of the President alongside President Trump during his speech.

Many social media thought this political rivalry was illustrated by a photo of Pelosi applauded after Trump called for a political compromise.

The image, called the "Pelosi shot", quickly became viral.

This took place after Mr. Trump broke the traditional protocol by not waiting for the usual introduction of the Speaker of the House before beginning his speech.

Women in white

Women on both sides of the house made a powerful political statement by wearing white to celebrate the centennial of women's suffrage in the United States.

This decision has highlighted how many women Democrats there are more than Republicans.

Record number of women now sit in Congress

After the president declared that women "held 58% of newly created jobs last year," they began to cheer enthusiastically.

A large number of acclaimed Democratic lawmakers took office after the recent mid-term elections, which saw a record number of women elected, and Democrats won a majority in the House of Representatives.

The irony of this has not been lost for many Twitter users.

Pbad the @amyewalter Twitter message

Trump noted that there were more women on the job market and more women in Congress. It is literally the reason why there are more female women in Congress. It is his presidency that has pushed these women – many of whom have never been involved in politics – to run for office.

End of @amyewalter's post

Many have hinted that Mr. Trump did not intend to badociate his comments on women's employment to the electoral success of Democratic Congress women, but the President did not agree with his comments on women's employment to the electoral success of Democratic Congressional women, but is congratulated for the influx of women in power.

The speech does not catch everyone.

President Trump and First Lady Melania invited Joshua Trump, 11, from Wilmington, Delaware, who was bullied at school because of his last name.

Photos seem to show the boy, who is not related to President Trump, doze off during the speech earned him fans on Twitter.

His parents removed him from school saying that his clbadmates had treated him as "silly" and "stupid" for wearing the same name as the president.

Eline, the girl sitting next to him, was treated for brain cancer. She seemed much more enjoy the evening.

Wonky Tie

The state of the Union is an opportunity for the President to inform the country of its goals for the coming year. But some were distracted by lighter questions – the position of his tie.

Many turned to social media to point out that the president's red tie was off center.

What does Pelosi read?

During the nearly 90-minute speech, many social media users seemed preoccupied with trying to guess what Nancy Pelosi was reading.

Some went on Twitter to suggest that Ms. Pelosi was "disrespectful" while reading while the president spoke.

Green screen?

After President Trump finished his speech, Stacey Abrams delivered the Democratic response.

While the Georgian politician talked about immigration, the right to vote, health care and the economy, Twitter users have clarified the appearance of the address.

You could see Mrs. Abrams standing in front of a lectern in front of a group of fuzzy people behind her.

Many wondered if she appeared in front of a green screen.

However, as can be seen below, once Ms. Abrams has finished speaking and the camera has zoomed out, it is clear that a green screen has not been used.
