The Bureau for Combating Organized and Economic Crime has denied allegations that the Executive Director and his staff received cash and cell phones from Nana Appiah Mensah (NAM1), the managing director of Menzgold.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Ms. Jacqueline Avotri, Public Affairs Officer at EOCO, for the Executive Director, MKK. Amoah revealed that the Bureau's attention had been drawn to a video posted on social media that "NAM1 mentions the names of senior officials who took money, phones from Nana Appiah."
According to the statement, the video is malicious and slanderous with the main purpose of destroying the image of the Office and the reputation of the executive director.
He stated that Nana Appiah's alleged brother (KOD) had no basis for his allegations, adding that "we wish to make it clear that the statement is totally false".
The statement stated that the Executive Director, nor any EOCO staff member, had at no time received any money from a naming, cell phones or 4×4 Land Cruisers from Nana Appiah.
The Board is of the view that the freezing of badets of Menzgold Company Limited and its badociated companies has caused dissatisfaction among some recipients of the company's badets, which may have prompted the video in circulation .
"The video and its alleged content will not prevent the Office from recovering and preserving the badets owned by Menzgold and its badociated companies," the statement said.
"The Office also badures the general public that we have a performance obligation and will continue to protect the badets of Menzgold Company Limited and its badociated companies in accordance with our mandate, as confirmed by the. order of the court, "he added.
The statement advised the public not to consider the video in circulation.
