MESTI calls for $ 2 billion to fight climate change

Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, Minister of the Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), said that his training was seeking to attract more than $ 2 billion to tackle the problems in Ghana. The minister says that this will be done through innovative policies, programs and projects.

Ghana has faced severe and complex environmental problems, despite various interventions by various ministries and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

These challenges include the erosion of the sea, landslides and deforestation, among others.

To help combat these challenges mainly due to climate change, Ghana is organizing the 2019 African Climate Week, scheduled for March 18-22 at the International Conference Center in Accra.

During the media launch of the event to inform stakeholders of the upcoming expectations for the one – week program, EPA Acting Executive Director, John Pwamang, said his team was determined to transform climatic conditions in the country, hence their participation in the workshop. .

Stephen Kansuko, UNDP program badyst, also said his organization would help the country to address climate change issues and develop the country.

He thinks that this will go a long way towards mitigating the effects of climate change.

The theme of Africa Climate Week is "Action for Climate in Africa: A Race We Can Win".

The event is organized by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and seeks to bring together various actors from the public and private sectors. More than 1,000 participants from across Africa and the world are expected to participate with a focus on six areas of transformation: energy transition, nature-based solutions, cities and local action, climate action, carbon pricing , reducing emissions from industry and building resilience.

Also scheduled for the event, an exhibition will see all institutions and companies expose their work to promote home climate solutions through innovative policies, programs and projects.
