Dayot Upamecano: The broken promises that missed Man Utd were revealed

Manchester United will look to strengthen its defense this summer and was badociated with a player change for the RB Leipzig Dayot Upamecano star.

Upamecano, at just 20 years old, is considered one of the brightest young advocates in Europe.

As a French international under 21, Upamecano joined Red Bull Salzburg's sister club in January 2017, for £ 9 million.

Since then he has shone in the Bundesliga and played 73 games with Leipzig in his two years at the club.

And the scouts of the biggest European clubs have gathered at the Red Bull Arena to follow the young French's evolution.

But things could have been very different if Upamecano had not refused the pbadage at Old Trafford in 2015.

Upamecano was then only 16 years old and his reputation grew as a young teammate in Valenciennes.

And according to his agent, Thierry Martinez, a move of 2 million pounds sterling to United – "the club that makes him dream since his childhood" – was in prospect.

However, unfulfilled promises would have led to a U-turn, which forced Upamecano to head for Austria with the Red Bulls.

Martinez told So Foot: "An intermediary met us, but between the project that she presented to us and what was really going to happen.

"An apartment was promised, but that changed for a homestay with only six round trip trips for his parents.

"When you uproot such a young player, that's not enough, I wanted Dayot to have a stable emotional balance off the field."

Now, Upamecano has a release clause of 88 million pounds sterling in its contract with RBL, which runs until 2021.

If United moves this summer and RBL is ready to use one of its most valuable badets, it will cost a lot more than it did four years ago.
