City of Los Angeles plans to remove carpets to prevent rat fleas

LOS ANGELES – Rats run between the floors of the historic Los Angeles City Hall and may bring disease-prone fleas with them.

City Council Chair Herb Wesson asks city staff to consider removing all carpets from the building, where the fleas are supposed to hide after a typhus has pbaded.

Wesson says that the woman was bitten by a flea just as her staff saw other traces of fleas and rats.

This prompted him to present a motion on Wednesday asking city staff to determine how much it would cost to remove all carpets from the building.

His motion also asks for ways to better control the population of vermin in the explosion of the building.
