Scientists seem to have found the reason why men are not as sharp as women in the IQ department and it's not your fault.
The human brain is subject to shrinkage with age, but recent studies suggest that men's brains decrease more rapidly than women's. This discovery corresponds to the metabolism of the brain, which slows down with age, a process which, according to the researchers, could differ from one man to another.
The controversial (and probably not very surprising) result was revealed by the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, who discovered that women's brains were about three years younger than men of the same year chronological on a metabolic scale.
"It's not that men's brains are aging faster: they start at about three years older than women, and that lasts a lifetime," says the paper's main author, Manu Goyal, MD, who is also an badistant professor of radiology at the university.
"What we do not know is what it means. I think that could mean that women do not experience as much cognitive decline in the last few years because their brains are actually younger, and we are currently working on a study to confirm that. "
The studies were based on tests of reason, memory and problem solving, and found that older women tended to perform better than men of the same age.
It was examined how the brains of women and men used sugar differently through a group of 121 women and 84 men aged 20 to 82 years.
This complex algorithmic process allowed brain ages to be on average 3.8 years younger than the chronological ages of women. For men, the same test showed that men's brains were 2.4 years older than their actual age.
