The body found on the wreckage of a plane in the Channel has been confirmed as being Emiliano Sala.
Dorset police released a statement Thursday night.
"The families of Mr. Sala and pilot David Ibbotson have been informed of this news and will continue to be badisted by specially trained family liaison officers and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time," we read.
"The HM coroner will continue his investigation into the circumstances of this Dorset-backed death.
On Monday, January 21, 2019, a plane carrying the two men was flying from Nantes to Cardiff when he lost contact with air traffic control, north of Guernsey.
"Unfortunately, a search and rescue operation did not locate the aircraft and both occupants, and AAIB research teams and private funds were deployed in the area concerned. They were able to locate and identify the aircraft and recover Mr. Sala's body. "
Geo Ocean III – the ship used by the investigators during the recovery mission – is docked in Portland, Dorset, Thursday morning, when the body was brought ashore.
The body was handed over to the Dorset coroner. An official identification took place on Wednesday.
The British Air Accident Investigation Branch confirmed Wednesday that it had managed to recover the body of the aircraft wreckage in "difficult conditions", while the operation of recovery of the plane was interrupted.
A statement said: "Unfortunately, attempts to recover the wreckage of the aircraft failed before bad weather forced us to return the ROV to the ship. The weather forecast being poor in the near future , the difficult decision to take the overall operation has been taken to an end.
"Although it was not possible to recover the aircraft, the large video capture captured by the ROV should provide valuable evidence for our security investigation.
"We expect our next update to be an interim report that we plan to release within a month of the accident."
The operation to recover the body in the wreckage of the aircraft began Tuesday.
A body was found in the wreckage of the plane after an underwater search in the seabed located in the wreck of the English Channel on Sunday.
It comes after two separate underwater searches were launched Sunday to find the plane, a coordinated by the British branch of air accident investigations and research funded by a private fund led by the scientist sailor Mearns, on behalf of the Sala family.
