ECG starts collecting mass customer data

The Ghana Electricity Company (ECG) has embarked on a special data collection exercise lasting three months, which is expected to be completed by March 31, in the 39, all of its operational areas.

The goal is to improve service delivery and strengthen communication with customers.

The exercise will involve collecting data from all categories of customers, prepaid and postpaid meter users, Theresa Osabutey, ECG public relations officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday.

She said the exercise will help the utility provider locate and know the current status of its meters.

It added that customers were required to provide deployed data collectors with information such as their names, phone numbers, addresses and email addresses, as well as other relevant information, to enable ECG to send information directly to them on a regular basis.

Ms. Osabutey stated that the ECG had already engaged in this type of exercise, but that it only targeted certain regions and operational districts. However, this year's exercise should cover all business areas of the company.

ECG data collection, she said, is being undertaken simultaneously in "our outstanding area of ​​Greater Accra, Volta, East, Ashanti, Central and Central Asia". West, with the exception of the North Zone, which operates under different sources of food.

Ms. Osabutey advised clients to check the credentials of officials before providing them with information and also urged ECG data collectors to always report before soliciting information.

Mr. Isaac Nurris Ainooson, ECG Public Relations Manager for East Accra Region, said the clients would benefit from this exercise because "this will allow officials from the 39 ECG to issue alerts on invoices and to communicate any other form of useful information. "

"In our part of the world, people are renting houses today and before you know it, they are gone; it is sometimes even difficult to get homeowners. You end up sending special information to this house and realize that the tenant has moved.

"It is this question that has motivated this entire monitoring of the person by collecting all the necessary personal information so that we can personally interact with it as and when needed," he said.
