Record traffic jams in eight hours on Thursday blocked hundreds of motorists and pbadengers along the Takoradi-Tarkwa road, one of the main busiest roads in the Western region.
An oil tanker carrying liquefied petroleum gas lost balance and fell to the side on part of the road between Nsuaem and Kofikrom around noon, thus interrupting the vehicles pbading both ends.
No explosion occurred although the tanker is supposed to contain LPG.
Emergency services including the police, Ghana fire service agents and the National Road Safety Commission have been called in time to ensure that the lives of residents and properties are not affected. are not in danger.
The pbadengers were kept clear to prevent any activity that could cause the explosion of flammable contents, said witnesses at Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi Simpson of Connect FM, based in Takoradi.
It took five hours before commuters and the motorist could breathe a sigh of relief as the team moved the truck off the main road to the shoulders to allow traffic to flow.
Even that, witnesses told our correspondent, the emergency team had to stay on the spot to direct the traffic, the truck and its contents representing a danger.
It was not until 8:30 pm that a crane tasked with handling the situation managed to move the tanker completely off the scene, said Victoria Yamoah, commander of Tarkwa MTTD, at Connect FM.
No accidents or casualties were recorded in the accident.
