OccupyGhana issued a statement to respond to the investigation opened by the presidency on Wednesday.
"We looked closely at the mandate of the investigation. More importantly, we noted with satisfaction the caliber of the people who agreed to sit on the survey. We are impressed by the reputation of the president, the members and the secretary of the Inquiry Commission, "reads the statement.
"We would have preferred the creation of a commission of inquiry under Chapter 23 of the Constitution, but we believe that this inquiry could potentially provide answers to the questions we asked in our letter of yesterday, February 6, 2019 , Minister of National Security, and probably more quickly than would a legal proceeding. "

OccupyGhana has taken note of the statement issued yesterday by the Presidency on February 6, 2019, in which an investigation was opened into the electoral disturbances at Ayawaso West Wuogon, literally moments after we sent our letter to the Minister of Security on the same subject.
We looked closely at the mandate of the investigation. More importantly, we noted with satisfaction the caliber of the people who agreed to sit on the survey. We are impressed by the reputation of the chairman, the members and the secretary of the inquiry commission.
Although we would have preferred the creation of a commission of inquiry under Chapter 23 of the Constitution, we believe that this inquiry is likely to give answers to the questions we asked in our letter of yesterday, February 6, 2019 , to the Minister of Justice. National security, and probably faster than any legal process.
We really expect the investigation to address the following issues raised in our letter:
I. The legal bases on which the armed force of the National Security Council has been constituted, maintained and deployed, as appropriate;
ii. The circumstances in which the Ghanaian police facilitated the actions of this force by providing vehicles or other logistics for the day's operations;
iii. The reason and the need to maintain the said force outside the services legally and constitutionally recognized by law;
iv. The procedure of recruitment of persons into the said force; and
v. Financial arrangements for maintaining the force.
We are waiting for the investigation and its members pending full disclosure on these and all other issues. We look forward to their report and will take steps to implement measures that we hope will substantially reduce, if not completely, the scourge of electoral violence in the country for several years.
