The State Minister for Tourism, Kiwanda Godfrey, announced this announcement on Tuesday at the launch of an event called "Miss Curvy", during which "bady women with generous curves" of the country will be competing for a price.
According to him, Uganda is endowed with beautiful women who can promote tourism.
The Minister said, "We naturally have beautiful women with a surprising look to look at. Why do not we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?"
"If you see a Munyankole woman with curves, there is a story behind that … It will be a beautiful event where young women will show that their beautiful curves are intellectual … Our beauty is not just about slimy girls. "
This comes a year after President Kaguta Museveni accused the Ministry of Tourism of not attracting more tourists to the country.
"A country like Spain, which has nothing to show, has been visited by 50 million people and Uganda barely 2 million people and you are here to congratulate yourself?
"The Uganda Tourism Board is mediocre and I do not like this type of mediocrity.
"Uganda has great potential in tourism … other countries have nothing to show but they manage to attract more tourists."
Kiwanda is criticized online for its controversial strategy to promote tourism in the country
