Isaac Osei, General Manager of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), is hopeful that the refinery will be operational soon, explaining that steps are being taken to better position it.
The administration headed by Isaac Osei has done intensive maintenance work at the refinery after the plant has not been shut down for maintenance since 2009.
Due to the obsolete nature of some components of the refinery, the facility that resumed operations last year and was maintained this year was closed due to damage to the refinery. Orific, a component of the residual fluid cataract cracker (RFCC).
Mr. Isaac Osei, who confirmed the closure of the plant, said that a new component had been imported from overseas and that it would clarify when a new component will have been imported Overseas and will be repaired during the Meet-The-Press series in Accra. the next days.
"I can say without fear of contradiction that we will be back by the end of the third quarter, and let me just say that the year 2017, when the president and his team took over TOR was in a situation where we had not been able to maintain the plant since 2009. The refinery has the capacity to process 45,000 bpd, but is only able to process 25,000 bpd because, according to Mr. Isaac Osei, one of the components of the facility was removed a few years ago.
"We intend to replace that and it should come overseas at the beginning of the second quarter, after which we will install it," he explained.
Mr. Isaac Osei explained that his team and the Ministry of Finance, as well as the Ministry of Energy, were discussing and considering appropriate options to revive the refinery and make it more viable.
