Achimota School reached 1/8 in 2018
Say it quickly, well, believe it or not, the vote for the regional qualifiers of the most popular Science and Maths television show started.
After the 2018 fiasco that saw Gabriel Sasu and Jeffery Quaye of Adisadel College beat their win at the Grand Final, the Cape Coast giants must prepare for a comeback in 2019.
Far from the region that has won more titles than any other. Let's bring our lenses to the capital, Accra.
The Achimota School, which has already won two wins, is a school that many would have lost their money in 2018. However, they collapsed after losing a decisive question against the Tamale Senior High at 1/8 step.
This loss has earned them a place of choice for the 2019 nationals; so, like the ordinary man, they must go through the tumult of regional qualifiers.
Voting for this began on Wednesday, February 6, 2019.
The Achimota School will have to defeat the Wesley Grammar School, the Nungua SHS and outsider Ngleshie Amanfrom to get the "Supporters Union" (ASU) against their backs.
But there is another big fish in Accra that has to fight at the regional level to get a spot in the nationals.
Labone SHS may have raised eyebrows in the past, but they should prove their past glory from the regions.
An elimination on 1/8 during the match of 2018 after having scored 19 points would not be sufficient to thrill the opponents at the hands of the 2019 nationals.
But to have the chance to prove that it is not right, they would have to place the SHS of St. Mary, just as powerful, and two outsiders – the Prophram SHS and the Odorgonno SHS – at the regional level.
