A beauty contest in Uganda that claims to promote the "curves" of local women has outraged critics who claim that it belittles the dignity of women.
The parade, dubbed "Miss Curvy Uganda," is championed by a government minister who claims that the East African country should not promote only "animals" in safari parks.
Minister of State for Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda, said, "It will be an exceptional event that will see young women show their beautiful curves and their intellect."
Some Ugandan men and women who want the authorities to cancel the competition mock and condemn the show.
The head of the Ugandan Anglican Church said Thursday that the show "is a disgusting demonstration of exploitation and shames our families and our country".
