BANNU: A polio case surfaced Friday in the Mirakhel area after verification by the National Institute of Health (NIH) of Islamabad.
According to district health officials, Rehan, 2, had a fever on Jan. 16, and his parents took him to a hospital where doctors recommended his stool test to the NIH to confirm the presence poliovirus.
In its report, the NIH confirmed the presence of poliovirus in the child victim who was immediately transferred to Peshawar for further treatment. This was the second case of polio reported this year, while in 2018, about 10 cases were reported. Health officials said Rehan's parents had refused to allow the baby's vaccination against polio.
