Reus has already been eliminated from the home league match against Hoffenheim on Saturday, the last goal before playing Tottenham at Wembley next Wednesday in the tie in the Champions League last 16.

Reus scored 17 goals and created 11 more this season in all competitions. Sports director Michael Zorc said: "We will decide at the beginning of the week" if he can face the Spurs.

The 29-year-old is injured in the thigh after scoring in the German Cup defeat on Tuesday at home against Werder Bremen.

The illness also had a negative impact on head coach Lucien Favre, who has the flu, probably should not be on the bench against Hoffenheim while Dortmund starts the weekend with a seven-point lead.

Zorc said he hoped that first-choice goalkeeper Roman Burki or his replacement, Marwin Hitz, would be fit to face Hoffenheim.

The duo missed the home defeat to Bremen due to illness, leaving Eric Oelschlaegel, reserve goaltender, to debut in Dortmund.

"We have good reason to hope that both goalkeepers will be able to play," Zorc said.
