It has been announced that Warner Bros. Japan and Level-5 were officially working on an animation film based on Ni no Kuni, the series of stylized role plays of this last company.

Warner Bros. Japan revealed that the film was in preparation at a press conference today, where it gave details about the production and its staff. According to Anime News Network, Yoshiyuki Momose (The legend of galactic heroes, Only yesterday) will lead while Joe Hisaishi (Princess Mononoke, Live far) will compose. Akihiro Hino, CEO of Level-5, will serve as executive producer and screenwriter, while OLM will lead the scene. Kento Yamazaki will be the protagonist of the film, Yū.

Part, if not all, is directly confirmed by the film's official website, which is of course in Japanese. The premiere of the film is scheduled for the summer of 2019.

Here's how ANN describes the plot of the movie:

"In history, Yū is a high school student, his best friend is Haru and his childhood friend, Kotona.Through a certain incident, they shuttled between reality and Ni no Kuni. Kotona's life is threatened, the three must make "the ultimate choice."

If you are not familiar with the series, there is not much to catch up with as there are only two games located in the franchise so far: 2013 Ni no Kuni: Witch of the White Witch for PlayStation 3 and 2018 Ni no Kuni II: The Returning Kingdom for PC and PlayStation 4. The reviews were mixed, the visuals inspired by Studio Ghibli being one of the most favorable arguments.

In addition, here is a bit of our own critique of Ni no Kuni II: The Returning Kingdom since last year:

"It's rare to see a game try so many things and succeed with grace. After dozens of hours of play, I struggle to rethink my era with Ni no Kuni II and isolate something that stands out as a gap or a defect. Level-5 aims to provide players with a rich history of interesting characters, engaging battles in real time, as well as innovative strategy and management elements for more variety, and that has been successful at every turn. Although the fairy tale coating can extinguish more hardened players, we'll tell you not to miss what will ultimately be considered one of the best RPGs on PS4. "
