Paris Saint Germain regained its Ligue 1 victory on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at Bordeaux, but the French champion lost striker Edinson Cavani, injured before his Champions League trip to Manchester United.

Cavani opened the scoring with a 42nd-minute penalty before holding off the thigh and leaving the field three days before PSG faced United in the round of 16.

The coach of PSG, Thomas Tuchel, is already deprived of the Brazilian striker Neymar, spread both legs because of a foot injury. This result allowed PSG leaders to score 59 points in 22 games, 13 more than Lille, who played an extra match.

There was good news for PSG after the recovery of midfielder Marco Verratti after an ankle injury. The Italian international played nearly an hour before being replaced by Leandro Paredes.

Verratti is set to begin Tuesday against an invigorating team from United, who earned their 10th win in 11 games under interim coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, beating Fulham 3-0 on Saturday.

Cavani broke the deadlock with a penalty for his 17th goal in 16 league games this season after Thomas Meunier had been the victim of a fault in the area. Miller was then replaced as a result of a clash at the head of a Bordeaux player.

A few minutes later, Cavani left the field, slamming on his thigh, pushing Tuchel to replace him with Kylian Mbappe, who had to rest before the shock of Tuesday.

The French international should now make his debut as an isolated striker at Old Trafford, alongside Julian Draxler and Angel Di Maria. The second period was relatively poor, PSG players wearing jerseys in Mandarin marking the Chinese New Year, taking no risk and a team of Bordeaux lacking creativity.

The visitors' only chance after the break was in the 61st minute when Gianluigi Buffon made a great save to fool Francois Kamano from a distance of 25 meters.

Bordeaux is 12th out of 28 points.
