The first university degree would obviously excite you, but the truth is in the context of modern Ghana, that does not mean much and you have to accept the truth.
True, the problem is not that people do not realize that college degrees do not mean as much as they have done.
The problem is that few people really know why. Of course, this article does not dissuade anyone from trying to get a first degree or another degree.
After all, in countries like the United States, graduates are still considered the most employable.
The factors that slow down the power of a first university degree are political and economic. YEN.com.gh makes you discover a number.
1. Most of the work has now been digitized
Many jobs around the world are now machine driven. This means that you would need a graduate degree to fill increasingly scarce jobs.
Employers are now looking to make hiring competitive because in reality, they want to hire fewer people.
The WASSCE position now requires a degree and the latter probably requires a master's degree.
2. The economy is not designed to make room for all aspects
Proper planning of the economy would ensure that the most employable have space to function.
Graduates of higher education are the most employable with regard to the modern workplace.
The managers of the Ghanaian economy have failed us. Instead, people have been taught that some university programs are more necessary than others.
3. Government being the largest employer
In most countries of the world, the government is the largest employer of human resources.
This means that the government has a huge payroll to pay.
When a government can no longer accept more people and private companies prefer to keep a small staff, it means that your university education becomes difficult to justify.
