A train operator had to stop his service after the discovery of human stool in a car.
The Tyne and Wear subway train was put out of service after someone "covered three seats" with excrement.
Her driver blocked a train car bound for Sunderland after the discovery around 17:00 GMT Saturday.
The train was then "immediately" brought back to a Newcastle depot for cleaning, the Nexus operator said.
A spokesperson apologized to customers and said that CCTV was under review to find the officials.
He added: "Such incidents are rare, but when they happen, the comfort and safety of our customers are our top priority."
