President Nana Akufo-Addo will present this week the Constitutional Instrument on the creation of six new regions.
In a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the President will welcome the delegations on 12, 13 and 15 February.
"Delegations including leaders and inhabitants of the new regions have been invited to the Jubilee House in Accra for the official ceremonies," the statement said.
"While congratulating the leaders and the people, the government expects the creation of new regions to further stimulate their development," he added.
This follows the referendum of 27 December 2018 in the six affected areas that overwhelmingly approved the creation of the regions.
The referendum ends with many votes YES
Chiefs and residents of the affected areas petitioned the president requesting the creation of the regions.
After the Supreme Court decision gave the go-ahead for the referendum to take place only in the affected areas, the electoral commission proceeded to vote.
The new areas are Western North, Ahafo, Bono East, Oti, North East and Savannah.
Meanwhile, Myjoyonline learned that unlike the past, where all regional offices and secretariats were located in capital cities, the government intended to expand these facilities and offices in the new regions.
According to one source, this will open up and promote the development of these new regions.
