Two Kenya Airways planes collided on Saturday at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The Embraer aircraft collided while they were in maintenance, said the director general of the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Gilbert Kibe.
No injuries were reported.
Captain Kibe said that airport security officials were investigating the incident.
"We are going to find out what is wrong and we are going to mitigate things so that it does not happen again," he said.
Mr Kibe added that an interruption of services at the JKIA would be inevitable.
"Some flights will probably be canceled. Every plane has something that it does everyday. If two are not available, it will really mess up the schedule, "he said.
"We hope the flights will return to normal as soon as possible," added Captain Kibe.
The troubled airline is trying to regain the confidence of pbadengers after two tumultuous years that have involved a long-standing quarrel with the Union of Pilots, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association, and a change of direction.
