JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa has been announced to the presidency of the African Union for next year.
According to the presidency, Ramaphosa will succeed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who is currently serving for 2019.
Each term of President of the AU lasts one year.

Sisi was suspended from the AU five years ago after a coup d'etat that overthrew former Egyptian ruler Mohamed Morsi.
Sisi faces significant domestic security problems and should focus its presidency on the treatment of migrants and internally displaced persons from Africa and within it.
Although still disapproved, his election to the leadership of the union is now considered a mark of his complete rehabilitation.
