Two elderly men died from dengue fever this month – the first two cases of dengue-related deaths in Singapore in 2019.

The Ministry of Health and the National Environment Agency (NEA) confirmed that a 74-year-old resident of Bedok Reservoir Road died on February 3, while a resident The 77-year-old resident of Hougang Avenue 3 pbaded away on February 7th.

Both sites have since been clbadified into dengue clusters, where NEA agents have sprayed insecticides in homes and common public places.

To date, six cases of dengue have been reported on Hougang Avenue 3. Two mosquito breeding habitats detected in common areas have been discovered and destroyed.

The mbadive dengue group surrounded by Bedok Reservoir Road, Jalan Damai, Jalan Tenaga and Kaki Bukit Avenue 1 currently contains a total of 167 reported cases of dengue fever. On Friday, 102 mosquito breeding habitats were destroyed, of which 79 were found in residential premises, eight in industrial premises and 15 in communal areas.

"People infected with dengue must protect themselves from mosquito bites by regularly applying a repellent," said NEA. "If you do not feel well and have symptoms suggestive of dengue fever, you should consult a doctor early."

In 2018 alone, 3,285 dengue cases were reported in Singapore, an increase of 20% over the 2,772 cases reported in the previous 12 months. Five people aged 41 to 75 died of dengue last year.
