50 tonnes of chicken meal for undeclared allergens recalled

Nearly 50 tonnes of frozen chicken meal is recalled because it contains eggs – a known allergen – that is not on product labels.

VICS Acquisition of Harlingen, Texas, announced the recall on Sunday of 99,975 pounds of chicken products. Some have been shipped to stores across the country, while others have been distributed only in parts of the southeastern United States.

1.5-pound packs containing an iced "Bloody Mary inspired chicken" meal were distributed throughout the country. They bear lot codes 14528 and 15092 and must be used before March 2, 2020 and April 15, 2020.

The following two products have been shipped to Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

  • 1.5 pound packs containing a frozen chicken bag meal "Chicken Marsala SE Grocers" with lot codes 14177 and 14532 and to be used before February 8, 2020 and March 3, 2020.
  • 1.5-lb. Packs containing an ice-cold sack meal of Mediterranean Mediterranean Herb Chicken SE Grocers with lot codes 14145 and 14531 for use before February 7 and March 4, 2020

The company said there had been no confirmed cases of adverse reactions due to chicken consumption.

Anyone who has the chicken is invited to throw it or bring it back to the store.
