Naleregu overload Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area

Before naming the regional capitals for the newly created regions this week, some leaders of the traditional Mamprugu region in the newly created Northeast region have joined forces to make Nalerigu the capital.

"Your Excellency, the undersigned / divisional chiefs and divisional chiefs of the Mamprugu region, wish to point out to you that the request of our father, Lord Nayiri – Lord and President of the Mamprugu area, sitting at North East Capital in Nalerigu has our full support, "they said in a letter dated February 10.

An overwhelming vote of "yes" on December 27, 2018 was marked by the creation of the regions of Ahafo, Bono East, Northeast, Oti, Savannah and North West.

Under Article 5 (8) of the 1992 Constitution, the President is required to issue an IC giving effect or allowing the results of the referendum on the creation of new regions.

In the same spirit, the government announced that three ceremonies were planned from February 12 at the Jubilee House of Nana Akufo-Addo to issue the IC, which will also name the regional capitals of the six regions.

But before that, the chiefs declared that Nalerigu was the traditional seat of the traditional Mamprugu kingdom and that it housed all these, which can easily become a regional chamber of chiefs, hence their support.

The letter, addressed to President Nana Akufo-Addo, explained the traditional seat of the Mamprugu region and its place of residence for all. It can easily be turned into a House of Regional Chiefs, hence their support.

Again, the chiefs said there was a reliable health facility, the Baptist Medical Center in Nalerigu, which could also be converted to a regional hospital without significant investment.

Meanwhile, Gambaga and Walewale youth, who also wanted their city to be named regional capital, are not satisfied with the traditional council that says the chiefs did not consult them.

They indicated that they would resist any attempt by anyone to undermine them.

Abdul Mugis, vice president of the Gambaga Youth Association, said that there was nothing wrong with having the regional capital in Gambaga and having the House of Regional Chiefs at Nalerigu.

He further stated that the Nalerigu Baptist Medical Center, which the chiefs claim can transform into a regional hospital, is "an American-owned mission hospital."
