Akyem Oda's divisional police command arrested eight people suspected of involvement in the kidnapping, torture and illegal counting of Nana Asamoah Korang III, leader of Akyem Abodom, near New Abirem, in the eastern region.

The suspects include the Nifahene of Abodom, Nana Adu Boakye, 65; Comfort Duah, 43, and Kwadwo Owusu, 37 years old.

The others are Martin Owusu, 60; Kwasi Nyantakyi, 28 years old; Yaa Ataa, 62 years old; Yaa Koo, 73, and Susana Amagbor, 33.

The Mpraeso District Court placed Kwadwo Owusu on remand, while the remaining seven were released on bail.

Daily Graphic Briefing at Oda yesterday, Oda Divisional Police Commander, Mr. FS Adikah, said around 5:30 am on January 27, that Nana Korang was in the palace in Abodom with his elders are preparing to observe the first Akwasidae for the year.

He added that six masked men, hired by the suspects, suddenly appeared, armed with machetes and batons, hit some of the elders and chose the leader.

Adikah said the suspects dragged Nana Korang to a nearby bush, where they forcibly removed her clothes and sandals and beat her with a machete.
Afterwards, they slaughtered a ram and poured blood on it to mark his disenchantment.

He stated that when the police had hinted at the incident and rushed to the scene, the masked men were gone, leaving Nana Korang in the bush with blood flowing from different parts of her body. body.

According to the divisional police commander, the chief was reportedly taken to the new government hospital in Abirem, where he was reportedly admitted.

The arrests

He added that police investigations had led to the arrest of suspects, including Comfort Duah, who had previously been proposed as Queen Mother of Abodom, but had been rejected by the leader.

In the meantime, the police managed to recover four of the five stools that the suspects stole from Abodom Palace on the day of the incident.

According to Article 63-F of the 2008 Law on Team Leaders (Law 759), Mr. Adikah warned King's manufacturers and their elders that the use of cruel and mean means to dislodge a leader was a crime.

He added that the penalty for this offense was a fine of up to 200 units or imprisonment for up to three months.

Mr. Adikah said he was concerned that "defusing by capture and molestation" was beginning to spread in the division's operational zone.
